Travertine is a stone that has been used in construction for thousands of years; in fact one of the biggest buildings ever to be constructed largely of travertine is the Colosseum in Rome built between 70 and 80 AD, which despite earthquake, fire, and stone thieves, its ruins are still standing nearly 2000 years later.
The stone itself is a sedimentary rock, a natural chemical precipitate of carbonate minerals, which is deposited from the water of mineral springs or streams saturated with calcium carbonate. It's hard wearing and durable, so perfect for walls and floors alike.
